Mr. Thomas Greiner and Mr. Martin Binder, both from ASFINAG, explained the future innovations of ASFINAG in a presentation. Noise protection is a central topic here. Noise not only affects people's quality of life, but can also have an impact on our ability to concentrate.

Photovoltaics on noise barriers

Noise barriers along freeways fulfill the important function of shielding residents from traffic noise. However, these sealed surfaces are to be put to another use in future, namely the generation of clean and regional green energy through the installation of PV systems.

Four photovoltaic systems were selected for rollout on the ASFINAG network from the pilot project on the S 1 Vienna Outer Ring Expressway, which was launched in 2021 and comprises seven systems. Three of the systems are particularly suitable for installation on the side facing away from the road. One system can be installed on both sides.

The highway of the future

What will the highways of the future look like? The participants were confronted with this question. In two groups, we held a 30-minute workshop on what the highway will look like in 2050. How will we get around in 2050? Will there still be cars? We tackled these questions in the workshop and discussed how to make freeways safer and, above all, more environmentally friendly. The ideas were presented by Mr. Thomas Greiner and Mr. Martin Binder.

Afterwards, we visited the exhibition in the Inside ASFINAG building, which was indeed very informative. A consistent graphic system structures the exhibition, while emotional installations are memorable and provide aha moments. Interactive elements run through the entire exhibition and encourage the participation and activation of visitors. These interactive stations offer a hands-on experience and invite visitors to actively engage with the topics.

A big thank you goes to Mr. Thomas Greiner and Mr. Martin Binder, who gave us the opportunity to gain an insight into ASFINAG.

Events are held regularly as part of the ACE Community. We look forward to welcoming YOU at one of our next events!
