In the major areas of health, education, care and nursing, housing, culture and social security, social infrastructures constitute a cornerstone of services of general interest. They pursue a wide range of social, socio-political, economic and regional objectives. Social infrastructures are thus central constituents of the everyday economy – and thus the foundation of a good life for everybody. Spatial planning plays a determining role in this context by creating infrastructures.
The contributions of the present Yearbook Spatial Planning 2023 present current research results on the planning and effects of social infrastructures. The focus is on sustainable and solidarity-based approaches in housing policy, on participatory education initiatives and innovation labs, and on legal aspects of social infrastructures in spatial planning.
