Simon Güntner
Univ.-Prof. Dr., Head of the Sociology Research Unit Sociology, Institute for Spatial Planning, TU Wien. He studied social sciences and urban planning in Konstanz, Duisburg and Cardiff. From 2000 to 2005, he was part of scientific staff at the Institute of Sociology at the TU Berlin. From 2006 to 2009, he worked as Policy Officer and Senior Policy Officer for Social Affairs at the European network of cities EUROCITIES in Brussels, and from 2009 to 2018 he was Professor of Social Sciences and Social Policy at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. His research and teaching focuses on poverty, migration, and urban development. His methodological focus is on qualitative social and spatial research as well as program-theoretical evaluation. Güntner has developed and implemented methods of action research and transnational learning in various international city networks. He is a liaison lecturer of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and the Hans-Böckler-Stiftung.
