Sabine Knierbein
Dr. phil. habil., Associate Professor for Urban Culture and Public Space at the Faculty of Architecture and Spatial Planning, TU Wien. Since December 2008 she has been responsible for the scientific development, structural set-up and international positioning as well as the institutional consolidation of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Urban Culture and Public Space. As director, she implements activities such as the promotion of young researchers, the acquisition of third-party funding, and the publication, editing, and review of scientific publications and projects on an international level. In spring 2020, Knierbein was appointed Visiting Professor of Urban Political Geography at the Social Geography Lab (LAGeS) at the University of Florence in Italy, where she was a Visiting Scholar in 2021. In 2022, she was a Visiting Fellow at the Centre of Urban Design at Hafen City University in Hamburg, Germany, and in 2023 she is scheduled to be a Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of Sociology and Cultural Organization at Leuphana University in Lüneburg, Germany. Based on her habilitation thesis “Critique of Everyday Life in the 21st Century. Lived Space and Capitalist Urbanization,” she was awarded the Venia in “Urban Studies ⁄ Internationale Urbanistik” at the Vienna University of Technology in June 2021. Knierbein is a founding member of the AESOP Thematic Group for Public Spaces and Urban Cultures and publishes in five languages.
